THE ADVENTURES OF ELLIOT | ELLIOT AND FAIE BEGIN THEIR JOURNEY JUNE 18
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales now has a proper release date, and Square Enix is giving its new HD-2D action RPG a clear summer launch window. The game is set to release on June 18, 2026, with confirmed platforms including PC via Steam and Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. That instantly makes it more than just another pretty Square Enix reveal sitting somewhere in the future calendar. It is now a real 2026 RPG release to track, especially for players who like the HD-2D look but want something more active than traditional turn-based combat.

The game comes from the creators connected with Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, but The Adventures of Elliot is not simply trying to repeat that formula with a new name. Square Enix describes it as a brand-new action RPG built around HD-2D visuals and action-adventure gameplay, with Elliot and his fairy companion Faie traveling across four ages as part of a thousand-year mission. That already gives the project a slightly different shape: familiar retro-inspired visuals, but with real-time combat, support abilities, exploration, and time-spanning fantasy storytelling instead of a pure party-based structure. One of the more important details is the combat direction. The Adventures of Elliot is being presented as an action RPG where Elliot fights directly, while Faie adds support abilities that help during battles and exploration. Steam also points to seven weapon types and fairy magic, with players able to use up to two weapons while dealing with enemies across the continent. That could be the part that decides how far the game goes beyond being another visually charming HD-2D project. The style will get attention immediately, but the combat has to feel sharp enough to keep players involved after the first few hours.
The setting also has enough weight to make the game more than a simple fantasy adventure. Elliot and Faie are not just moving through one static world. The story is built around different historical ages, a mysterious continent, ruins, and a larger timeline that stretches across a millennium. Square Enix is clearly leaning into that “long history under the surface” feeling, which fits the HD-2D format well. These games often work best when the world feels old, layered, and a little mysterious, not just colorful for the sake of nostalgia. There is also a demo angle here. Square Enix currently lists a Prologue Demo as available, which is useful because this is exactly the kind of game where screenshots are not enough. HD-2D can look beautiful in a trailer, but action RPGs need feel: movement, hit response, pacing, enemy behavior, and how naturally combat flows into exploration. A demo gives players a better chance to see whether The Adventures of Elliot has that mechanical confidence, or whether the visual style is doing most of the early heavy lifting.

The PC release matters too. This is not only a Nintendo Switch 2 story, even if the game will likely get attention from that side as well. Steam already has the game listed, with Square Enix and Claytechworks named on the page and a June 18, 2026 release date. For PC players, that means another major HD-2D title is entering the platform without feeling like a late afterthought. It also puts the game in a nice space for players who enjoy Japanese RPG structure but want something more immediate and hands-on than turn-based battles. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales releases on June 18, 2026, and the real question is whether Square Enix can make the action side feel as memorable as the presentation. The HD-2D style already gives the game a strong identity, but the bigger test will be combat rhythm, exploration, and whether Elliot and Faie’s journey across the ages feels like a proper adventure instead of just a beautiful throwback. If those pieces connect, this could become one of the more interesting action RPGs on the 2026 PC calendar.
