After years of fans asking, hoping, guessing and arguing about which Resident Evil classic should return next, Capcom has officially confirmed that Resident Evil Code: Veronica is getting the full remake treatment under the cleaner title Resident Evil Veronica. The game is planned for 2027, and it is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. And yes, this one deserves some excitement. Resident Evil remakes have become one of the best things Capcom has done in modern gaming. Resident Evil 2 Remake was not just a nostalgic return, it was a serious survival horror game with atmosphere, tension and smart modern design. Resident Evil 4 Remake proved that even one of the most famous games ever made could be rebuilt with respect and confidence. Even when fans debate details, pacing, cuts or changes, the larger point is hard to ignore: Capcom understands how to bring classic Resident Evil into the modern era without turning it into something completely unrecognizable.
That is exactly why Resident Evil Veronica matters. Code: Veronica has always been a strange, important and slightly neglected part of the series. It is not just another side entry. It connects Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, Umbrella, the Ashford family and some of the larger story threads that helped shape Resident Evil after the original PlayStation era. It was originally released in 2000, and for many fans, it has been the missing remake in Capcom’s modern Resident Evil lineup. Resident Evil 2 got its moment. Resident Evil 3 got its moment. Resident Evil 4 got its moment. Code: Veronica was sitting there like the obvious unfinished business. Now that gap is finally closing. It just needed the modern remake treatment to make those ideas land properly for today’s audience. Of course, there is pressure here too. Code: Veronica is not the easiest game to remake. Its tone is unusual, its story is more theatrical, and some of its original design choices would probably feel rough today if Capcom copied them too directly. This is the kind of remake where balance matters. Change too much, and longtime fans will say the identity is gone. Keep too much, and newer players may feel the game is dated under the visuals. But if Capcom finds the same kind of balance it found with Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Veronica could be huge.
For pcdoorz, this is easily one of the best announcements to come out of Summer Game Fest 2026. Not because every remake automatically deserves applause, but because this specific remake makes sense. Code: Veronica deserved a second life. Claire deserved another major spotlight. The classic Resident Evil timeline deserved this missing chapter to be rebuilt with proper atmosphere, modern controls and current-generation horror presentation. Resident Evil Veronica does not have an exact release date yet, but 2027 is now the window to watch. And if Capcom handles this properly, we may be looking at another major survival horror release from a studio that has already proven it knows how to resurrect its classics. This is good news. Very good news. The Resident Evil remake run has been one of modern gaming’s strongest comeback stories, and Code: Veronica was the obvious next piece. Capcom finally pulled the trigger. Now we wait for gameplay, more details, and hopefully the kind of dark, tense, polished survival horror remake this game deserves.
