Outward 2 | PC Requrements and July 7 Release Date

OUTWARD 2 | PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND JULY 7 RELEASE DATE

Outward 2 is officially heading to PC Early Access on July 7, 2026, and Nine Dots Studio has now made the hardware expectations much clearer. The survival RPG sequel will launch through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, while a closed beta is scheduled to begin on May 26, 2026. Console versions are planned after version 1.0, but the Early Access launch is PC-only for now. That makes the system requirements especially important, because PC players will be the first group testing how this harsher, more grounded RPG sequel actually performs outside trailers and controlled previews.  The good news is that Outward 2 does not look like a brutal hardware wall. According to the Steam page, the minimum requirements target a fairly modest machine, while the recommended setup aims much higher but still stays within realistic mid-range PC territory. The developers are also openly leaning into the joke with a “Potato mode”, saying players can go below minimum and still try the game, although full gameplay parity is not guaranteed. That is a nice touch, and honestly, it fits Outward’s personality. This is a series about surviving with what you have, not walking into the world as an overpowered hero with everything handed to you.

What stands out is that Outward 2 still seems designed around accessibility rather than pure visual flexing. The recommended hardware points toward a comfortable modern experience, but the minimum side suggests Nine Dots is not trying to shut out older systems immediately. That matters because the first Outward built a lot of its identity around being rough, demanding, and systems-driven rather than being a visual showcase. Outward 2 looks more ambitious, but the hardware requirements suggest the team still wants the game to be playable on a wider range of PCs, especially for players who care more about survival, exploration, and consequence than ultra settings. The system requirements also say something about the kind of game Outward 2 is trying to be. This is not a power fantasy RPG where the player quickly becomes unstoppable. Nine Dots is still building around vulnerability, preparation, travel, danger, and the feeling that the world does not exist to flatter you. Wccftech’s coverage of the developer presentation notes that the studio is doubling down on that punishing, anti-power-fantasy RPG direction, which is exactly what made the first game unusual.

For players planning to jump into Early Access on July 7, the practical advice is simple: check the table before assuming the game will run smoothly. If your PC sits around the minimum range, expect compromises and lower settings. If it is closer to the recommended range, Outward 2 should be much more comfortable, especially if you want a cleaner experience while exploring, fighting, crafting, and surviving across a larger world. The 25GB storage requirement is not heavy by modern standards, which is another small positive for players who are already juggling giant installs. The most important thing to remember is that these requirements belong to an Early Access version. Performance can change, optimization can improve, and hardware expectations may shift before the full release. But for now, Outward 2’s PC requirements look reasonable for a modern survival RPG sequel. They suggest a game that is bigger and more polished than the original, but still aware of the kind of audience that made Outward matter in the first place: players who do not need everything to be smooth, easy, and expensive, as long as the adventure feels dangerous enough to remember.
