MSI has launched one of the more unusual RTX 5080 cards of this generation, and this one is clearly aimed at collectors as much as gamers. The new MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G The Mandalorian and Grogu Edition OC is an ultra-limited Star Wars-themed graphics card inspired by the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. It is not a standard Gaming Trio model with a small logo slapped on the shroud. MSI has built the card around a full Mandalorian-inspired design, special packaging, a themed GPU support holder, and a magnetic backplate system that lets owners change the visual style of the card.
The headline detail is the production run. MSI says only 500 units will be available across selected European countries, starting May 22, 2026, through selected reseller partners and the MSI E-Shop. That instantly makes this less of a normal GPU launch and more of a collector-focused hardware drop. For most people, this will not be the RTX 5080 they buy for value. It is the kind of card someone buys because they want a rare showcase piece inside a themed build. The design is built around The Mandalorian and Grogu rather than generic Star Wars branding. MSI describes the card as using a Mandalorian-inspired brushed metal shroud, with Star Wars details across the card and box. The most interesting part is the swappable magnetic backplate system. The card includes four interchangeable backplate plates based on the Mandalorian helmet, Grogu, the New Republic, and Imperial Remnants. That is a smarter idea than simply printing one fixed design on the card, because it gives the owner a little control over how the GPU looks inside the build.
MSI is also including a Grogu-themed VGA holder, which is both practical and very much part of the collector angle. Modern high-end graphics cards are heavy, and GPU sag is a real issue in large builds. A themed support bracket makes sense here because it supports the card physically while also keeping the Star Wars identity visible. For a normal GPU, that would be a small extra. The important thing is to keep expectations honest. This is not a value GPU story. A regular RTX 5080 already sits in expensive high-end territory, and a 500-unit Star Wars collector edition will almost certainly be judged by rarity, design, and fan appeal as much as performance. MSI has not shared clear public pricing in the launch material, so guessing would not be useful. The safe assumption is simple: if this card reaches retail at a premium, the buyer is paying for the theme, exclusivity, and package as much as the GPU itself.
