GHOST RECON WILDLANDS | LAST RITES IS A REASON TO RETURN
Night settles over Bolivia, rain cuts visibility and a Ghost team moves into territory controlled by people who no longer behave like ordinary cartel soldiers. Almost nine years after Ghost Recon Wildlands first opened its enormous version of Bolivia, Ubisoft has returned with something considerably more substantial than a routine compatibility patch. Released on August 6, 2026, Last Rites is a free major update for existing owners on PC and consoles, combining an entirely new story mission with deeper tactical customization, revised difficulty controls, additional rewards and the unexpected return of one of the game’s most memorable crossover encounters. Current-generation consoles receive the widely requested 4K and 60 FPS upgrade, but the more interesting part for PC players is how thoroughly the update changes the rules beneath the familiar open world. Wildlands already offered freedom in where missions could be approached and how a squad entered hostile territory. Last Rites extends that freedom to the systems themselves, allowing players to make the experience more forgiving, more immersive or considerably harsher without being forced into one rigid hardcore mode.

a darker return to bolivia
The central addition is a standalone narrative mission that can be launched directly from the main menu without completing the original campaign. Bolivia has moved beyond the immediate conflicts involving El Sueño and Los Extranjeros, but the resulting power vacuum has produced another threat. La Llorona, a mysterious figure shaped by betrayal and revenge, leads Los Penitentes, a masked cult that has turned sections of the country into hostile territory. The mission adopts a darker and more oppressive atmosphere than much of the original campaign, using reduced visibility, difficult terrain, limited support and environmental pressure to keep the Ghosts uncertain about what waits ahead. La Llorona is not introduced as another cartel lieutenant waiting inside a fortified compound. Her followers treat her as an almost sacred judge, carrying out punishment against anyone connected to the events that created her. Documents and recordings gradually reveal more about her history, while the operation moves away from a familiar military incursion toward something stranger and less predictable. According to ubisoft, the original English voice actors for Nomad and the Ghost team have also returned, helping the mission feel like a genuine continuation rather than an isolated piece of anniversary content.

the sandbox finally gets proper rules
Last Rites becomes more important when its new mission is placed beside the broader gameplay changes. Ghost Parameters now allow players to choose whether reloading discards the ammunition remaining in a magazine, restrict the character to one or two primary weapons and determine how many revivals are permitted before a game over. Team Composition replaces the previous all-or-nothing teammate option, making it possible to operate alone or select one, two or three AI companions. Difficulty can also be adjusted through individual settings for enemy firepower, endurance and perception, vehicle durability and the delay before health regeneration begins. World and Session Settings go further by allowing the host to control time of day, weather, faction patrol density, Unidad alert levels, SAM launcher persistence, alarms, mortars, jammers and friendly fire. A group can therefore create a permanent night operation in heavy rain, remove much of the interface, enable tactical reloading, carry a single primary weapon and make every mistake dangerous without accepting every restriction of Ghost Mode. These additions recognize how the remaining Wildlands community has actually been playing for years: creating personal mil-sim rules, specialized squad roles and self-imposed limitations inside an open-world shooter that was flexible enough to support them but never formally acknowledged them.

an old hunt and a cleaner return
The update also restores The Jungle Moved, the Predator crossover mission originally removed after its limited availability ended. Players can once again travel to Caimanes Province and hunt the Predator, with the Bio-Mask returning as the primary completion reward alongside previously associated cosmetic items. The encounter remains separate from the Last Rites story and cannot be entered while that mission is active, but its return gives players another strong reason to reinstall the game. Ubisoft has additionally unlocked numerous items that were previously unavailable, tied to discontinued challenges or restricted behind older systems. Mercenaries and Guerrilla Mode rewards are available by default, Ghost War classes can be unlocked for free, several weapons have been opened across multiplayer classes and completing Last Rites awards two Operator Skins and one Iconic Skin. Battle Crates and Prestige Crates are no longer sold through the in-game store, while many former crate items have been unlocked or reorganized into directly purchasable collections. PC receives one smaller but welcome platform-specific correction as well: DualSense controllers are now properly recognized with the correct on-screen input icons. None of these adjustments transforms Wildlands into a new game, but together they remove friction from a release whose scale, cooperative freedom and tactical sandbox have aged better than many of its surrounding systems.
