Elden Ring: Tarnished Pack | New Classes Arrive On PC

ELDEN RING: TARNISHED PACK | NEW CLASSES ARRIVE ON PC

Steel scrapes across stone as two unfamiliar warriors prepare to enter a world PC players have already crossed, conquered and, in many cases, returned to several times. Bandai Namco’s new pre-release story spotlight trailer primarily promotes Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, but its arrival also brings relevant news for the existing PC audience. Tarnished Edition itself is not receiving a separate PC release. Instead, its additional character content will become available through the paid Tarnished Pack on August 28, 2026, the same day the complete Switch 2 edition launches. This is not another expansion on the scale of Shadow of the Erdtree, nor is it a remaster or technical upgrade for the original PC version. It is a smaller content package built around two new starting classes, additional armor and visual customization for Torrent. The distinction is important: Switch 2 players are receiving the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree and the new material in one edition, while PC owners can add only the fresh content to the Elden Ring version they already own.

the tarnished pack arrives on pc

Bandai Namco has confirmed that the tarnished pack will launch digitally for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on August 28 at a standard European price of €4.99. Its contents consist of two new starting classes, four armor sets and three customization skins for Torrent. That is a restrained package, and it should be understood as such. Players should not expect a new region, quest line, boss encounter or narrative continuation. The appeal lies in giving another playthrough a slightly different beginning and expanding the game’s visual equipment selection without attaching a large price to it. For PC players who have already completed Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree, the package alone may not provide enough reason to rebuild an established character. For anyone considering a fresh run, however, two new origins and their associated starting equipment create a more natural excuse to begin again from the Chapel of Anticipation.

two different ways to begin again

The heavy knight is the more immediately imposing of the two additions. Bandai Namco describes the class as a heavily armored warrior equipped with a substantial scimitar, suggesting a durable opening built around physical pressure, protection and deliberate attacks. The idus knight takes the opposite direction, combining lighter equipment with weapons intended for a more dexterity-focused approach. These are starting classes rather than permanent roles. Elden Ring allows every character to change direction through leveling, equipment and attribute investment, so neither addition creates a separate class system or restricts long-term build development. Their importance is concentrated in the early hours, where starting statistics and equipment can significantly change how quickly a character reaches a desired playstyle. Experienced players may eventually reproduce similar builds using existing equipment, but beginning with a focused loadout removes part of the usual setup work and gives the opening journey a different rhythm.

armor, torrent and the value of a new run

Four additional armor sets provide the more persistent part of the package because they can remain relevant long after the advantages of a starting class have disappeared. Elden Ring’s equipment is never purely cosmetic: weight, defensive values and resistance influence how a build functions, while appearance remains unusually important in a game where players may spend well over one hundred hours with the same character. Three new skins for Torrent are a smaller addition, but they finally introduce a degree of visual choice for the spectral steed that accompanies nearly every open-world journey. None of these features fundamentally changes combat or exploration, yet together they make the Tarnished Pack feel more substantial than a simple collection of costumes. The value will depend heavily on how much interest a player still has in beginning another complete run. Someone waiting for a new campaign or major expansion will find little of that scale here. Someone already looking for a reason to return may find that a new class, unfamiliar equipment and a different Torrent appearance are enough to make the first steps feel less repetitive.

a modest addition at a sensible price

At €4.99, the Tarnished Pack is priced like a small optional extension rather than a disguised expansion, which is the correct approach. The new trailer sells the grandeur of the complete Tarnished Edition, but PC players should separate that presentation from what they are actually purchasing. They are not receiving another copy of Elden Ring or Shadow of the Erdtree, and there is no indication that the pack introduces graphical improvements or broad PC performance work. What arrives on Steam is a compact group of additions intended primarily for character creation, equipment variety and repeat playthroughs. That limits its importance, but it also prevents the package from asking too much for what it contains. Elden Ring already supports an enormous range of builds, and the Tarnished Pack expands the starting line rather than moving the finish line. Its best audience will be returning players who want to rediscover the Lands Between from level one, not veterans expecting another Realm of Shadow.

- SUMMARY & CONCLUSION -

ELDEN RING: TARNISHED EDITION IS EXCLUSIVE TO NINTENDO SWITCH 2, BUT ITS NEW GAME CONTENT WILL REACH PC THROUGH THE SEPARATELY SOLD TARNISHED PACK ON AUGUST 28, 2026. PRICED AT €4.99, THE PACK INCLUDES THE HEAVY KNIGHT AND IDUS KNIGHT STARTING CLASSES, FOUR ARMOR SETS AND THREE VISUAL CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS FOR TORRENT. IT DOES NOT ADD A NEW REGION, STORY OR EXPANSION-SIZED ADVENTURE, AND PC PLAYERS SHOULD NOT CONFUSE IT WITH THE COMPLETE TARNISHED EDITION SHOWN IN THE NEW PRE-RELEASE TRAILER. THIS IS A SMALLER OFFER DESIGNED TO GIVE RETURNING PLAYERS DIFFERENT OPENING LOADOUTS AND MORE EQUIPMENT TO DISCOVER. ITS LONG-TERM VALUE WILL DEPEND ON THE QUALITY OF THE NEW ARMOR AND STARTING GEAR, BUT THE MODEST PRICE KEEPS EXPECTATIONS IN THE RIGHT PLACE. THE TARNISHED PACK WILL NOT REDEFINE ELDEN RING, YET IT MAY PROVIDE EXACTLY ENOUGH NOVELTY TO MAKE ANOTHER JOURNEY TOWARD THE ERDTREE FEEL WORTH BEGINNING.
