ACER PREDATOR XB253Q U1 | THE REFRESH RATE WAR GETS SERIOUS

The refresh-rate race has officially entered four-digit territory. acer has unveiled the Predator XB253Q U1, a 24.5-inch Full HD gaming monitor capable of running at an extraordinary 1000 Hz, making it Acer’s first FHD display to reach that figure and pushing the familiar esports monitor formula into genuinely extreme territory. This is not a gigantic ultrawide, an OLED showcase or a monitor designed to make Cyberpunk 2077 look prettier; it is an unapologetically esports-focused IPS display built around one priority, getting as many frames in front of the player as current display technology can reasonably deliver. At 1920 × 1080, the resolution is deliberately conservative, but that choice makes perfect sense for a product chasing four-digit refresh rates, where outright speed matters far more than pixel density or cinematic presentation. Pairing Full HD with 1000 Hz immediately makes the XB253Q U1 one of the most aggressive examples yet of where competitive gaming monitors are heading, and it also raises the obvious question of how far manufacturers can continue pushing refresh rates before the practical gains become increasingly difficult to notice outside the highest levels of competitive play. Acer is clearly not trying to build a monitor for everyone here; this is a specialized piece of hardware for players, teams and enthusiasts obsessed with latency, motion clarity and every possible fraction of a second. Acer introduced the model as part of its latest Predator display lineup, with availability planned for the first quarter of 2027.

1000hz is the entire point

Acer is using a 24.5-inch matte IPS panel with a native 1920 × 1080 resolution and the headline 1000 Hz maximum refresh rate, backed by its VRB Pro motion-blur reduction technology and a quoted 0.3 ms response time in that mode. AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible certification are both included, which is exactly what we would expect from a display aimed at extremely high and rapidly changing frame rates. The rest of the specification is more conventional: 400 nits of native brightness, up to 450 nits in HDR400 mode, VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, 99% sRGB and 90% DCI-P3 coverage, with 1.07 billion colors produced through an 8-bit + FRC implementation. Connectivity is unusually well prepared for the bandwidth side of the equation, with two HDMI 2.1 ports and a DisplayPort 2.1 connection. The stand supports 150 mm of height adjustment, ±20-degree swivel, pivot and tilt from -5 to 25 degrees, while a standard 100 × 100 mm VESA mount is also supported.

the fps problem does not disappear

Reaching 1000 Hz on the panel is one thing; feeding it enough frames to make full use of that capability is another. Acer is clearly not positioning the XB253Q U1 around visually demanding single-player games where even flagship GPUs can struggle to maintain several hundred frames per second. Its natural habitat is Counter-Strike 2, Valorant and similarly lightweight competitive titles running on aggressively optimized high-end systems where resolution and visual detail routinely take a back seat to latency and motion clarity. That makes the decision to stay at 1080p entirely logical. Moving to 1440p or 4K would work directly against the purpose of a display whose headline specification depends on generating enormous frame rates in the first place. The more interesting question is how much practical benefit elite players will find beyond today’s already extremely fast 360 Hz, 480 Hz and 500 Hz-class monitors. Acer is betting that motion clarity and responsiveness still have somewhere to go, and the XB253Q U1 is effectively the hardware required to test that argument rather than simply debate it.

1000hz also brings a four-digit price

Extreme specifications rarely arrive cheaply, and this one certainly does not. Acer says the Predator XB253Q U1 will launch in North America during Q1 2027 at $1,099.99, with an EMEA price starting at €1,099 and Chinese pricing beginning at RMB 7,999. That is serious money for a 24.5-inch 1080p IPS monitor, and for the overwhelming majority of PC gamers there will be far more sensible ways to spend the same budget. But sensible is not really what this product is trying to be. The XB253Q U1 is aimed at competitive players, esports environments and enthusiasts interested in pushing latency and refresh rate toward the current limit, not someone choosing between sharper textures and a few extra frames. We have watched gaming monitors climb from 144 Hz to 240 Hz, 360 Hz and beyond over the last decade; Acer has now planted a 1000 Hz flag in the ground. Whether that becomes the next meaningful esports standard or remains an extravagant edge case is something only real testing and a seriously fast PC will answer.
